What do I need for internet access at home to work remotely?
Some employees have asked us how much bandwidth they need at home to work remotely. MaineIT recommends that you have minimum broadband access, defined as 25 Mbps down-speed and 3 Mbps up-speed (25/3) by the FCC. Less will still work but will likely result in a degraded experience. Some internet service providers networks are heavily taxed with so many people at home and are not delivering advertised speeds.
It has also been asked, how much data will I consume working from home. MaineIT recommends that you procure an uncapped plan for regular remote work. In general, using documents and webpages will use less data than streaming audio, which uses less than streaming video.
